I was born in Angola in 1966, grew up in Porto, Portugal, worked in Macau and currently live between Lisbon and Campo de Gibraltar, south of Spain.
As a journalist I covered the Civil War in Angola, reported in the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan, as well as followed the transition processes in Hong Kong and Macau.
I also covered the political changes in Indonesia in the 1990s and the independence of East Timor.
Among other assignments, I reported in New York following the attacks on September 11, 2001; the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and have been in Afghanistan three times in recent years.
In 2020 I covered the presidential elections in the United States.
As an illustrator I have done drawings for books and records.
I believe in journalism, I like music, and I continue to draw Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” and Saul Bellow’s “Adventures of Augie March.”
I also think that “art is prevention against crime.”
Nasci em Angola em 1966, cresci no Porto, Portugal, trabalhei em Macau e atualmente vivo entre Lisboa e o Campo de Gibraltar, sul de Espanha.
Como jornalista fiz a cobertura da Guerra Civil em Angola, fiz reportagens na República Popular da China e Taiwan, assim como acompanhei os processos de transição de Hong Kong e de Macau. Fiz também a cobertura das mudanças políticas na Indonésia nos anos 1990 e de independência de Timor-Leste.
Entre outros trabalhos, fiz reportagens em Nova Iorque na sequência dos ataques ocorridos no dia 11 de setembro de 2001; a invasão do Iraque em 2003 e estive três vezes no Afeganistão, ao longo dos últimos anos.
Em 2020 fiz a cobertura das eleições presidenciais nos Estados Unidos, com o repórter fotográfico Mário Cruz.
Como ilustrador fiz desenhos para livros e discos.
Acredito no jornalismo, gosto de música e continuo a desenhar a “Guerra e Paz” de Tolstoi e as “Aventuras de Augie March” de Saul Bellow.
Também penso que “a arte é prevenção contra o crime”.
